In 1995, Sabeer Bhatia founded Hotmail, the world’s first web-based e-mail service. He had left BITS Pilani after a year to go to Caltech, but his restless spirit led to this revolutionary entrepreneurial move. By the end of 1997, Hotmail was ubiquitous – and Bill Gates came calling. On December 31st, 1997, Sabeer and his co-founder (Jack Smith of Apple Computer) sold Hotmail to Microsoft for US$400 million. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year for 1997 by the leading venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and was named by TIME magazine as one of the “People to Watch in International Business” in 2002. Among other things, Sabeer has since founded a new venture called BlogEverywhere, and has relaunched Arzoo.com as a travel portal.

It is a great honour for us to host Sabeer at this event. We look forward to seeing you there.
