SUNRISE INDUSTRY SPEAKER SERIES

India Club presents

The Fourth talk in our SUNRISE INDUSTRY Speaker Series: Sunny Verghese, CEO of Olam International on “Building a Southern Multinational: The Olam Experience”.

India Club is delighted to announce the 4th talk in our Sunrise Industry Speaker series, following previous talks by Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (Biocon), Ashok Soota (MindTree) and Sabeer Bhatia (founder of Hotmail).

Our featured speaker this time is Mr. Sunny Verghese, Group Managing Director and CEO of Olam International, one of the world’s leading agribusiness companies, which happens to be majority-owned by the non-resident Indian Group (Kewalram Chanrai) and run entirely by a team of professionals. Sunny Verghese is the leader of that team, having left Hindustan Lever to found Olam in 1988, and take it to the heights it has now reached as one of Singapore’s best-known international companies.

Beginning in Africa with cocoa, coffee, nuts and dried fruits, Olam pioneered the techniques of supply-chain management in agriculture that are today being emulated by new Indian agribusinesses (like those of Mukesh Ambani and Sunil Mittal). Procuring products directly from its network of farmers around the world, Olam is the “brand behind the brand”, dominating the global supply of 14 agricultural products including cocoa, coffee, several nuts, spices, etc., and delivering them efficiently to the world’s major end users. Olam International has become a darling of the Singapore stock-market with its share price having quadrupled within 2 years of listing with a market cap touching S$4 billion and has now been included as part of the STI benchmark index. It has an enviable list of shareholders including at one time Temasek Holdings, which took a stake in the company several years ago. Sunny Verghese is also the vice chairman of International Enterprise, Singapore and Chairman of CitySpring Infrastructure Trust Limited, the first business infrastructure trust listed in Singapore last week, sponsored by Temasek holdings.

The India Club is proud to present the story of Olam International, presented by Sunny Verghese.

Venue : Tanglin Club

Date : February 24th, 2007

Time : 11am-1pm. Talk to be followed by lunch

Attendance: $45 for non-members (including lunch). Free for India Club members.
