India Club welcomes Sunethra Bandarnaike, at Indigo Blue Art Gallery

India Club, Singapore is delighted to welcome Sunethra Bandaranaike of the Sunera Foundation to deliver a talk on “The Bandaranaikes & India: an inside view on the joys and occasional tribulations of neighbourliness", as well as to discuss her foundation’s work for Children with Disabilities.
Sunethra Bandaranaike is the eldest daughter of Solomon WRD Bandaranaike (founder of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and 4th PM of Sri Lanka, 1956-59) and Sirimavo Bandaranaike (PM of Sri Lanka, 1960-65, 1970-77 and 1994-2000). Her sister, Chandrika Kumaratunge was President of Sri Lanka (1994-2005) and brother Anura was Speaker of parliament. Her paternal grandfather was Maha Mudaliar (the chief Sinhalese advisor to the Governor) of British-ruled Ceylon, and her maternal ancestor was the key signatory on behalf of the Sinhalese to the Kandyan treaty that established British rule in 1815. Sunethra herself obtained a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Somerville College, Oxford, and was Coordinating Secretary to the PM during Sirimavo Bandaranaike’s 1970-77 tenure. But she subsequently chose not to enter politics herself, and focused more on her social work with children and adults with disabilities.

INDIA CLUB Networking Evening

Dear Members & Friends of India Club,

You are invited to INDIA CLUB’s mid-year Networking event on Saturday, 7th of July. It is being held at the Indigo Blue Art Gallery, against a backdrop of MF Husain’s works. On display are limited edition scrolled prints by the Indian Master Artist. Two of Husain’s most coveted series, “Horses” and “Mother Teresa", are featured in this collection. Each print is signed in Chinese characters as this exhibition was meant to be travel to China, Japan and Singapore with Husain himself accompanying, but sadly before it could take place the artist passed away. This event is an opportunity to mingle with like-minded people over drinks and finger food and to enjoy a 15-minute talk on the exhibition. Look forward to seeing you on Saturday, 7th June from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The address is 33 Neil Road, Singapore. Public car-parking is available near the gallery.
We have had some excellent events in the past 12 months, including talks by Abhinav Bindra , Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Arun Shourie. For the rest of the year, INDIA CLUB has a stimulating pipeline of events – one featuring a prominent novelist and another featuring a quasi-political figure. We intend to have a gala year-end social gathering too. So please do stay connected and if you haven’t renewed your membership or wish to sign up as a new member, the 7th of July event at Indigo Blue is a good opportunity to do so. Do publicise this event to your friends. The networking event is free for INDIA CLUB members, including for newly signed up members on the day, and will cost $ 20 for non-members. (Renewal fees is $100 and New Annual membership is $150. Cash and cheque payments only.)
