Indian Ocean & Amitav Ghosh @ INDIA CLUB

Dear Members & Friends of INDIA CLUB

You are invited to two events over the last weekend of the month : the first is to meet India’s home-grown and internationally-acclaimed rock band Indian Ocean. Indian Ocean pioneered Indo-rock fusion, their rhythms are jazz-spiced and they integrate shlokas, mysticism, mythology and environmentalism into their music. They have collaborated with Bollywood and the advertising world. Come and hear the story of how these IIT-ians gave up their regular salaried jobs to found a new sound – a sound that was Indian but contemporary. You can see Indian Ocean in concert at The Esplanade on Sunday, 25th Nov as part of Kalaa Utsavam.

The second is to hear Amitav Ghosh, celebrated novelist, read from “Sea of Poppies”, the first novel in the trilogy that is now two thirds complete. Ghosh’s work is meticulously researched; the eye he casts on colonial history provides a refreshingly Indian and Asian perspective. His story telling is polished and engaging. Amitav Ghosh was at INDIA CLUB last in 2005 – so if you missed him then, now is your chance to meet this important writer.

Please share the information among your own personal networks as it is open to all. Details of both events below. We have limited seating capacity and request an RSVP to indiaclubsingapore@gmail.com for the events you wish to attend.
